New French Extremity (update)

It’s March, and Shudder is introducing a Modern French Horror collection! Which means that over the next month or so, probably a good amount of the reviews I’ll be writing will be on films from this collection. This sub-genre of extreme film has thoroughly piqued my interest. I even got myself a copy of Films of the New French Extremity: Visceral Horror and National Identity by Alexandra West (co-host of the Faculty of Horror podcast, which I highly recommend checking out). If you’re interested in other materials on extreme film, I definitely recommend checking out the Zobo with a Shotgun podcast / blog.

I just wanted to share this as a kind of content warning for some of the upcoming reviews—these films can get pretty nasty and bleak. If you’re not interested in watching them, then you can think of this like: I watched them, so you don’t have to!

I don’t normally share what reviews I’ve got coming up, but I probably should find an effective way to do that (so folks can watch the films first), but since I’ve got a couple nearly ready to post and some others I’m working on, I’ll share those here: Inside, Livid & Frontier(s). I’m at least planning to watch and review those three, though I may end up doing some more as well.

Anyways, thanks for reading and hope you’re enjoying the site!

  1. I’m a sucker for French Extremity. Even the Lets Watch Horror Podcast gave recognition to me twice by doing an episode on INSIDE and later by telling their audience to ask me anything when it comes to Extreme French Horror.

I even made a Tier List since it’s my favorite Sub-genre in Horror. I’d have to say CLIMAX (2018) is the last installment.
